My class is setup up so that all student work can be completed in the classroom.  Students also have the opportunity to complete most of the work from home if needed.  I usually have assignments due every day or every other day.  If a student is absent, they might need to attend tutorials or finish assignments at home.  I give zero’s in the grade book when an assignment is past its due date.  Each student has until the end of that 9 weeks to get the zero cleared up.  Students have more than enough time to get all their work completed in class, so the only way the student would be behind would be a lack of effort during class or excessive absences.
